Landscape artist Douglas Selley Byrd's oil paintings remind us of Autumn's ever changing beauty. Washington's changing seasons offer an abundance of color to paint from but their reds, yellows, and blues of fall are my favorite. I love painting with vibrant oils in an impressionistic style and feel the seasons have a way of jumping onto my canvas.

Being a self taught artist I took my inspirations from the impressionist painters of the late 19th century. They taught me the best way to capture light filled landscapes is with brilliant colors and thick impasto oils. I've worked with watercolors, acrylics, and pastels in the past but never felt they could give me the depth and brilliance oils can achieve.
